Workshop of Ruediger Shestag «Digital commercial photography - lightning and color management»
Digital technological process in the commercial photography requires knowledge in different fields - not only technical but also artistic. Settings of the camera, software, pc and printer, adjustment of convenient light - this is only one part of those important skills which every modern photographer should have if he would like to get professional and suitable for printing result, especially while working with prepress preparation and offset. This workshop is dedicated to practical questions of work in the digital studio.
Program:
September 1 (10.00 - 16.00)
Participants of the workshop should bring their portfolio (printed or digital)
10.00-11.00
Acquaintance. Instructor tells about himself and his projects
11.00-12.30
Theoretical part - survey of modern tendencies in commercial photography, discussion about new technologies and styles. Features of practical work in the field of fashion photography.
12.30-13.30
Lunch break
13.30-16.00
Basics of color management (what is color, ICC profiles, gamuth of RGB-LAB-CMYK, gamuth mapping, color management on Macintosh-computer, in Photoshop and InDesign, how to convert profiles, calibration of monitors cameras and printers).
Basics in raw-photography (what is RAW-format, what is new, what efforts in RAW, RAW archiving, Adobe-RAW-converter and Adobe Lightroom).
Photoshop and Lightroom tips and helpers (show some useful tools and workflows), basics in color correction and retouching, colors and contrast.
September 2 (10.00 - 16.00)
Participants should bring with them their camera and notebook (if they want).

Basics in lightening use, lightening strategies for portrait and still life.
Practical demonstration with models and photo-examples.
12.30-13.30
Lunch break
13.30-16.00 (may be extended for practical work)
Photo shooting, work with models and objects. The participants work on their own photo setup in Groups of 3 persons, preparing to get printable results.
September 3 (10.00 - 16.00)
10.00-12.30
Working on the photographs done by participants. Preparation for printing.
Showing how to use Photoshop to optimize the results.
12.30-13.30
Lunch break
13.30-16.00
Printing, proofing, layout, showing some additional Photoshop tools and plugin.
Discussing the results.
Entrance conditions:
Group: 6-9 person
Cost of the workshop: 8 000 rubles
You can register for the workshop and make prepayment in the State Russian Centre of Photography until the 25th of August 2008.
To take part in the workshop one should have digital camera and laptop with Photoshop and Lightroom programs (preferably).
